The mood is poised somewhere between a funeral and a celebration. Lumia 520 won't be getting full features of the GDR3 update, says @qxerro!

By: Unknown    01:57  gdr3, Lumia 520, news, Nokia, windows phone   11 comments

It seems Xero(@qxerro) is on fire! He(or she) has been posting a number of tweets regarding windows phone in the past 12 hours. One of his latest tweet informs that Nokia Lumia 520 won't be getting  full features of the GDR3 update due to some hardware incompatibility. He tweeted as "#Nokia #Lumia_520 is not going to have the taste of some GDR3 features due a hardware incompatibility."

We cannot say anything about the authenticity of the information. But we cannot fully neglect the tweet as we have witnessed several cases when Amber update(GDR2) was rolled out. When Amber update rolled out, Lumia 620 didn't get the FM feature due to some hardware incompatibility. Also double tap to wake up feature and Nokia pro cam were absent  from low end phones like Lumia 520, 620 and 720 after the Amber release. It can happen same in the case of GDR3 update. Being the most cheapest(but the most popular) phone, Lumia 520 may lack some hardware which are present on the other phones meant for future updates.

If the news is true, it will be a great blow for Lumia 520 though it's the most popular Windows Phone on the planet. Recently we had seen that Lumia 520 has been a great success in the Indian subcontinent and because of this Windows Phone is the 2nd largest smartphone platform in India.

So what do our reader think?

Windows Phone is a Lumia!

By: Unknown    23:10  adduplex, lumia, Lumia 520, Nokia, windows phone   No comments

According to the inquirer Nokia dominates Windows Phone 8 market with 85 percent share. This statistics was compiled by advertising company Adduplex. Of course these figures aren't sales numbers from Nokia or Microsoft, but they paint the picture that Nokia continues to control the Windows Phone market.

Adduplex said, "Nokia continues its domination in the Windows Phone 8 ecosystem and has gained another percent compared to last month. And there's very little hope HTC or Samsung will make a serious comeback in the nearest future."

According to the data Lumia 520 is the most popular windows phone with 13.3% of the total share.

Adduplex added, "Nokia Lumia 520 was only the fifth most popular Windows Phone last month but the trend was clear and, it's no surprise, that it shot up in the chart straight to number one. Almost 1/5 of all the new app installations happen on the 520 now."

The hard work of Nokia has done the trick for them. Nokia has put on a lot of effort to provide users with exclusive apps. Some of the apps from Nokia are in the top downloads. Also we have seen few exclusive Xbox games like Fifa13 released exclusively for Nokia Lumia users. Navigation and map applications like HERE Maps, HERE Drive, etc have been provided by Nokia for its users as official support of gMaps is not available. Nokia is also getting engaged by releasing ads for promoting Lumia Phones and this has helped them a lot!
Read the words of one of our friend Colen Ntokozo Thwala:

Lumia 800 was the only Windows Phone 7 that got my  attention. It was the best looking mobile  made by Nokia at that time. In 2012 Nokia introduced Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 8 OS. I think from there everything went smoothly for Nokia.
Nokia 808 the last Symbian mobile was  introduced with a large 41 megapixels camera along with  pure view technology. But it was not successful as expected. But it’s great to see Nokia again releasing Lumia 1020 with a 41 megapixel Camera. This proves the confidence
Nokia really put on a lot of work on Windows Phone OS by releasing apps and games.Nokia Music is one of my favorite app. Also we have  apps like  Cinema graph, panorama, Here maps, etc.
Lot of people think that Windows Phone is a Lumia!
Hat’s off to Nokia!

This proves the success of Nokia. The manufacturer has now rose even though it was down when Android came into market. So manufactures like HTC,Samsung,Huawei should really work on to gain some market share.
Tell us what you feel on the success of Nokia. If you are a Lumia user, comment about what you like the most in your phone! Be the first one to comment!

Lumia 520 vs Lumia 620

By: Unknown    17:04  Comapre, flipkart, Lumia 520, lumia 620, NFC, Nokia   No comments

Nokia Lumia 620 and 520 are both low end devices working on Windows Phone 8. Lumia 520 is prices at Rs.9099 and Lumia 620 is priced at Rs.14230 at Indian online retail store flipkart. Both the phones are powered by a Snapdragon S4 Plus Dual Core processor and has 512 MB Ram. There has been discussions over internet about the two phones. Many are confused as the phones are identical  in many ways(Even I too was confused of choosing the right one. Finally chose 620!)

Here we are going to discuss the main differences between  the two:-

• Dimension:- Lumia 520 has dimensions 111x64x 9.9mm and weighs 124 g wheres as Lumia 620 has dimensions 115.1x61.1x11mm and weighs 127g. As per the dimensions and weight 620 seems small and bit bulky as compared to 520.
• Design:- 520 has sharp edges as compared to 620's curved edges. Lumia 520 is available in 5 colors and 620 is available in 7 colors. 520 has more metro look as compared to 620.
• Display:- Lumia 620 has a 3.8" display whereas 520 has 4" display. Both the phones has a resolution of 800 x 480. Being small the 620 has 245 ppi whereas 520 has 234 ppi. This makes the images in 6220 more sharper and bright.Besides these 620 has Nokia Clear black technology, sunlight enhancements,RGB stripe and polarization filter in its display. This makes 620 better option when it comes to display than 620 thought its the smaller one. The sunlight reading capabilities for 620 is worth noting!
• Touch:- 520 is employed with a super sensitive touch whereas 620 has ordinary capacitive touch. So we can use 520 even by wearing gloves and this is a good feature only found in high end phones.
• Sensor:- 620 has a compass sensor in addition to other sensors present in 520. This allows users to use apps like Here maps in a more advanced way.
• FM Radio:- Though FM radio is not present in any of the Lumia phones at present except the  Lumia 925, it will be available to all Lumia by the GDR2 Amber update. But 620 does not have a FM chip in it. FM radio will be available in 520 after the update which is expected to reach the customers by mid-July.
• Battery:- Lumia 520 has 1430 mAh  battery whereas 620 has a 1300 mAh battery. Theoretically 520 must have a longer battery life but having a small display, there won't be much difference in 620.
• Camera:- Lumia 620 has LED flash and secondary camera which is absent in 520. The absence of flash light will be a major disadvantage while taking pictures under low light conditions on 520. Video calling won't be possible in 520 due to the absence of secondary camera.
• Music:- Lumia 620 has Dolby Headphone enhancement and graphical equalizer which is absent in Lumia 520.
• Audio :- In Lumia 620 there is HDR audio recording and there are two microphones. This enables noise cancellation. This feature is absent in Lumia 520.
• NFC :- NFC(Near Field Communication) is present in 620 which allows users to send files by tapping with other phones. This feature is present only in high end phones and it's a surprise for being present in 620. NFC in future will allow users to pay bills using there mobile phones.
• Capacitive buttons:- The capacitive buttons in 620 are back lit but in 520 they ain't back lit
• Price:- The price of 620 is 5k more than 520 but its worth it. If you don't mind the lack of flash,NFC,compass, etc Lumia 520 is a great phone to go for.

Let us know if there are any other differences other than these.
