Nokia offering Lumia to a Samsung user who got his Galaxy S4 fired!

It seems Nokia is playing the game nicely.Nokia USA is offering a Lumia to Richard Wygand who recently got his Samsung Galaxy S4 fired up during charging. The issue got some attention recently when Richard posted about the issue in social networks.

Watch out the video below after the break to see the fired phone:

On contacting Samsung, they agreed to replace the phone but they wanted him to remove the video and to agree with their terms. Richard wasn't happy with the terms and watch his video explaining the terms and the letter from Samsung by him after the break:

Click here, if you want to read the full letter he received.

It seems Samsung wants silence from his part and wants to cover the issue secretly. But the issue is no longer a secret! His Youtube video has now surpassed over 6 lakh views. Nokia somehow came to know about the situation and wants to show him how 'CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOULD REALLY WORK'!

So what do our readers think?
Is this a good move by Nokia to go against Samsung?
Recently we had seen Nokia going against Blackberry on twitter.
We really think that this will gain more attention and will draw more people to the Windows Phone community.

Comment below on what you feel like.
Happy Sharing!

    8. I can tell most of these guys have never used Windows Phone 8. I seriously wouldn't use anything else.

    9. From previous experience i can definitely agree that Samsung's OS is way worse than windows phone 8. There's no lag on windows and almost zero bugs. Android seriously needs to sort there shit out, way to much background crap that just slows everything down. WINDOWS RULES! ANDROID DROOLS...

    11. I have a NOKIA LUMIA and I wish it ran ANDROID. the app store on this thing SUCKS. The GPS is SHIT. I'm sorry but I don't mind using my phone but I would trade the OS if I could. It's smooth and easy to use but lacks a bunch of things I would like to have.

    12. Pure Android (like on the Nexus devices) is quite good. Samsung's hacked version of Android has lots of unstable bloatware and crap you don't need. Also, sorry, but I don't feel like going back to a "walled garden." There's plenty of apps I use that will not (and can not) be available on WP due to licensing problems (MS explicitly forbids GPL'd software from their platform.) I'd rather deal with a one-time wipe of my phone of manufacturer garbage than deal with what is essentially Apple's bullying all over again. After I sold my iPhone I told myself "never again."

    13. I definitely am not a fan of TouchWiz (Samsung's implementation of Android). AOSP is a completely different story.

    17. This is exactly what's wrong with Android. And it is Samsung. People, who only used Samsung devices, be it galaxy y, galaxy ace, whatever. They used an android version that is 4 years old and is bloated by Samsung. They had their experience with shitty device that they bought for 20$ (maybe more) and now they think that whole OS socks. Android has cancer, and it is Samsung. Have you ever b heard of HTC, Sony, Huawei, Oppo, Asus, LG? No? Yeah, I thought it.

  3. My friend got his Lumia 920 damaged by water in the rain. Nokia said they were unable to repair it even though my friend was ready to bear the repair cost. So Nokia promptly replaced his handset with the same model. Say what you will about Nokia and the Windows platform, they still did THAT!

    5. Clogging apps?

I don't think so. The only apps that suck are provided by Verizon, otherwise I've used almost everything else. As for the interface, that's the best thing about Android. Custom launchers so I can do whatever I want. Currently running a metro like home screen.

    6. Cyanogen mod running on a GS4 is smooth as butter. Apps load near instantly. What more do I need?

Any slow and laggy android you've played with has probably been stock from the phone company. They're all known for loading up their phones with bullshit bloatware. The manufacturers are responsible for the same thing. If every hater checked out vanilla android, or any respectable rom based on it, they would shut their mouths.

    7. Same idea. If any hater checks out WP8 and the app store, they would at least hopefully change their opinion.

  7. I think most of the folks that make negative comments about WP8 have never spent any time with the OS. It really is fantastic. There's nothing wrong with any of the big 3 OS's, really - but WP8, in my opinion gets the nod in every category except all popular apps being readily available - that is a significant problem, but really has nothing to do with the OS - but instead is a perception problem that MS has brought unto itself by being sloppy and unresponsive in market over the last several years. The other perception problem is people naturally equate Surface with WP8. Surface has it's place - but WP8 really is a transitional OS and a very real competitor for both the consumer, and professional. If the App availability problem is addressed (and it eventually will be, likely) we'll see a very strong showing from MS. If you've been using Android and iOS for the last six years, you're due for a refreshing change -WP8 is just that. Full disclosure: I just switched back to iOS / iPhone because of the app availability issue.... I wanted to play Candy Crush Saga.... so, I get it.

    1. I am using a WP8 phone an apps is definitely lacking and OS while is clean, is pretty much terrible. It's definitely not for people who wants more out of their phone. It now function as a secondary phone for me but i won't pay too much for a WP8 phone.

Android=/= Evry OS( free and open)

    3. This is a misconception... with every Andriod update more and more functionality, is moved from open source to closed. Do a little "google" research and you will see.

  8. This is a great move to boost their PR. Hopefully it works out. They make amazing phones too bad they have to run on the Windows OS.

  9. My Lumia 822 is the best phone I've ever owned. App selection does blow, but it's the quickest and most seamless interaction I've had with a phone. It's durable as all hell, as is the screen. The camera is super nice and fairly advanced. Thing has never crashed on me. If you aren't a heavy app user outside of facebook and major ones like that, it's really no hassle, but the market is very limited on apps.

  10. to all those mocking Nokia and WP8... guys its just a matter of time... just wait and watch... WP8 is by far the only OS that surpasses the supremacy of iOS in terms of UI, camera and productivity. It just lacks the tremendous amount of apps available for both iOS and Android... which has been developed through time... so give Microsoft time to make its phone, something which is Personal Computer nowadays is... Windows is used by more than 90% of the world... so they know what to do, and how to do and when to do.. better than these sarcastic mocking group of people can ever imagine...

    1. Productivity wise i'll say it's better than IOS for sure. The MS Office bundled is definitely a win in that area but until their useful and popular apps grow and more flexibility in their customization grow, i can't justify paying good money for their phones. So far it has been more disappointing for me than all it's merits. Android is a mess i agree but for people who knows what to do and how to handle things on their own, you'll feel very crippled if you move from Android to WP8 or IOS.

    2. lol "wait and watch" ? how long?

microsoft lost it's way years ago. They overreached into their mobile OS and failed windows 8? failed ...and have been limping for a while now. Nokia stuck to their windows (elop/CEO is a former MS employee, and is again, now) and lost profitability so badly they were bought out at a third of their original stock price...) and were going to stop making windows phones. Hope your just being satirical. if not heres a forbe's link. read up a little. http://www.forbes.com/sites/adamhartung/2013/09/04/microsofts-7-2b-nokia-mistake/

  12. Why can't smartphone companies allow the consumer to choose their own OS? Let them release 2 versions of phone running different OS and let the consumer decide which to buy. Yes it will cost more to produce but the sales will make up for it I think. I like the Nokia phone but I prefer Android over Windows.

    1. business deals = money. or so they think. Microsoft, for example, owns several smaller companies that bang out computer games... and how many are made for pc, their larger game market? Not much. Many are made exclusively for the xbox in the hopes, especially for bigger game titles, that it'll convince you to buy not only the game but also a shiny new xbox. Never actually happens. At best people without the console get a pirated port of the game and pay nothing at all (even if they were willing to buy, it's not available).

What seems to be happening is that if one is bust people buy neither (in this case, the phone is great, the OS is not... so people do not buy the phone or it's OS). A little googling and you'll find a wealth of nokia fan boys that walked away from the phone over the OS. At best they get the people that were going to buy anyway (extreme fan boys... so they were already sold).

However, the people making the calls seem to think differently. Their bottom line lately shows it. Google around. a lot of them, Microsoft included, seem to be feeling the pinch.

  13. I currently have the galaxy s4, and I miss my windows phone for many reasons. I will be switching back come the next big release.

    1.) Battery life
    2.) Navigation
3.) OS ease of use ( faster to get where I want on wp )
4.) Tiles ( I hated the idea of tiles when I first used them now I understand. )
5.) Less lag ( even my S4 lags more on common tasks than the ativ s did, for instance contacts loading or phone app)

    Problems included:

    1.) Some apps missing
2.) Multitasking not so great ( android tries to hard here )
3.) Charms are a little ugly (same with on windows 8, just give me some color )
4.) Let me fully customize colors and a background wouldn't hurt.

5.) Older versions had inefficient use of screen real estate but that is fixed now.

  15. had a lumia 720 for about two months, before that IP 4, turned itself off a few times, couldn't access my whatsapp chat info more than two days old or else it'll just bounce back to home screen. wouldn't even mention the lack of apps as that's a given. glad I got rid of it and bought HTC one, although at about twice the cost, worth every cent penny, wouldn't even go back to iphone now

  18. Of course Nokia are going to be the good guy. They have no choice. Why do you think Nokia sold their Mobile business to Microsoft. Because it's market share is tiny and they were losing money. I've got a Windows phone as a work phone and a Nexus Android for personal use. The Windows 8 is functional, it works as a phone. But that's it. I don't hate it, but then I don't like it either.

  19. I think it's the samsung chargers that are defective, not the actual smartphone. There have been cases where people who charged their e-cig batteries with samsung chargers had their devices explode and cause fire to their homes as well.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'd happily take a Windows Phone device over a Samsung device any day. I like Android, but only when it's custom firmware like CyanogenMod because that gets rid of all the carrier bloat and Samsung's shovelware. Android devices have always irritated me with little bugs and the fact that root access is essential to get any sort of enjoyable experience out of the phone. If I had to choose a new phone now, it would either be an iPhone if I had the money or a Windows Phone device because they are much better value than those cheapy Android 2.3 phones that infest the market.

23. With a Wince lineage and so few sharing options to non-microsoft devices, windows phone 8 is not a very friendly and versatile platform. I would not be so keen to accept Nokia's largess. MS are trying to mimic Apple in it's iOS model. And yes I have used all three. Without a doubt Android gives more to the user for considerably less. That's why it is killing the market in spite of the claims of all the other mobile OS platforms.

In the recession/depression most of the world is blanketed in atm, I think cost it the overriding factor in the choice of phones, closely followed by versatility. Unfortunately, for both of them, iOS and Windows phone 8 lack those key attributes.

Three screen touches and I can share a 50 MB video with most other peoples phones or pc's using android, no matter what platform it is running. My Bro-inlaw's Lumina couldn't do it to my android tablet, laptop running Linux or my iPhone. That in its self says a lot.

  24. Samsung devices lack in build quality and the touchWiz sucks. HTC scores better in both departments, works better when you are using custom ROMs (I am using ViperX for my One X and Cyanogen for Desire). I want to try windows phones so I am buying a Lumia 625 shortly.

  30. Richard Wygand’s Comments, aaaggh, we have a saying where I come from that go Eish!!! meaning how can you say this or make this comments about Samsung, it really suck!! let me ask you, If a plane go down made by a big aircraft company, does it mean its a bad plane? or a pilot error (mostly), or ground crew error or a other multitude reasons. No my friend I must say I agree with BarryP this is very shortsighted, how do we know that you maybe; haven't before this happened try to force the plug in the wrong way around? push the plug skew in? misused the power supply for some other phone or device not made for? and if I look at this pictures it looks like there is some other damage to it not only burn marks. Im a electronic engineer, lets talk facts. Open the phone and see how very small and thin that conducting tracks are to the connector, maybe can handle 500 milli amps? the power supply only rated at 500 milli amps (0.5Amps). If I were Samsung I would have told you proof you not miss used it. Lastly you are one out of how many millions using this incredible Samsung S4? and only you have this issue? now It come out you have a iPhone issue also? ha ha ha ha ha what are you Conan the phone destroyer? BRRRRR! samsung just felt sorry for you, ha ha!!
