Known limitations and issues:

• This app is initially only available in English
• On the Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 720, and Nokia Lumia 620, you may observe flicker especially with images containing large areas of bright colours
• Settings >> glance needs to be on for backgrounds to appear
• Glance Background will increase your overall power consumption. This will vary from one device model to another due to the display size, technology and nature of the selected image.
• This beta release of Glance Background is offered as a standalone app to allow for easier installation (and removal).  Combining these features into Settings is a longer-term possibility and depends on the results of this beta trial among other things.

Insider for Windows Phone is an application that shows battery status,shortcuts,etc. We had mentioned about the app and the upcoming updates  in our previous post. The app has now updated to version 2.6.0.0 which includes support for French, Turkish, Bahasa Malaysia languages and also several other features.There are also some new battery features which are handy. The developer of the app has informed us about the details of the upcoming update.Read it below:

Christopher Blackman, the developer of the app said that "I’ll be submitting an update soon to add complete support for background audio, so you can listen to music/podcasts from YouTube while using other apps, and pause it using the regular Windows Phone audio controls. This feature is kind of available right now, but it doesn’t have the ability to pause the audio while it’s playing in the background. The update will also include the ability to pin YouTube channels to the start screen."

According to him the new update will add an option to pause the audio while it's playing in the background. Many users were complaining about the inability of the app to pause audio. It's great to see the developer pushing updates according to customer feedback. The developer also told us that there will be some bug fixes as usual. We too don't know the exact date of update. But we will post it, as soon as it is available.

The app is available at Windows Phone Store for $0.99. A trial version is also available for download. Please note that the trial version limits  to watch only 1 hour of video in every 3 hours. After that you will have to wait for 10 minutes to continue watching.

WhatsApp for Windows Phone Updated

     WhatsApp is a popular smartphone messenger available in all platforms including Windows Phone. But the app was not the best for Windows Phone platform. Users faced any problems including late notifications, freezing, reboots, etc .But now the team has pushed out a significant update which pushes the app into version 2.10.488. The UI of the app has now improved, notifications bugs fixed and several other languages are now supported.

     According to wmpoweruser, the app no longer uses background audio to maintain a connection to their service, but instead uses a proper background agent. This will solve a large number of bugs users have been experiencing with unreliable connections.

 The major changes are:-

• User interface improvements
• Support for new languages.
• Abandonment of the APIs related to streaming music that left started to keep the connection to the service (Only on Windows Phone 8)
• New Emoticons
• Fixed problems with notification
• Ability to see the emoticons even in rectangular Tile
• Support Fast resume (If the app is open and you step on a notification arrives, the message opens in an immediate way)
• When you first start it will ask you to back up the chat
• Images displayed in a larger format
• Ability to make a phone call to the selected contact

It's  great to see that the team has worked on to resolve the issues. It also implies that Windows Phone community is important for the the WhatsApp team.

WhatsApp is free for first year use and thereafter the app is available at $0.99/year.

Latest Insider app update adds support for new languages

In our previous post we had discussed about Insider app for windows phone.The app has now passed certification and got updated to version 2.5.0.0 with new languages and advanced live tile option.The update has added support for   Italian, Chinese and Polish languages.The app now supports English, Korean, Chinese, Italian and Polish. Also there is option for choosing  new glossy battery icon or the previous flat icon for the live tile.

We all know that Windows Phone Store is lacking official Google apps which we all use,though we are die hard fans of Microsoft!
And Google  does not have any future plans for developing native apps!

gMaps for windows phone is an unofficial Google Maps app. It has some cool features and it can be considered as an alternative for the native app. 

The main noticeable feature is  fast-resume function. This means that the app won't restart when we relaunch when we tap the tile , but it resume from where we have left before. This feature is a handy one and makes the experience much smoother.

Updates coming for MP3 to Library- includes Mixcloud and SoundCloud integration!

                        Recently we had mentioned about MP3 to Library in our  post. Today Benjamin Michel , developer of the app mentioned us that an update will be rolled out tomorrow which brings Mixcloud and SoundCloud integration and that's a good news for DJ's and artists.

               This is great news for new artists as many use SoundCloud and MixCloud as their primary distribution platform for new releases and radio shows.Thanks to the developer for considering such a feature in the new update.

     According to the developer any mix or track will be caught once you press the play button and it will be downloaded. On SoundCloud it uses the download link if available, if not present it will get the streaming MP3.That means any MP3 played via the HTML5 Audio API gets caught and downloaded.


We haven't tried the app yet.We will post a review as soon as the update is available.

 The availability of the app may vary from region to region. According to the developer the app will be available tomorrow morning.So wait for it!

Insider for Windows Phone is an application that shows battery status,shortcuts,etc.It is never a substitute for the notification bar which is missing from the platform but the app is good to go. The shortcut feature allows you to access WiFi,flashlight,Bluetooth, GPS,etc.It also has option to pin these shortcuts on the start screen.The battery status shows detailed information about the battery status including time since last charge, graph,estimated time remaining ,etc. Other features include bing background,hardware tests,windows phone compare,etc. For those who haven't tried the app, I would encourage you to try it as its a great app to   have  in collection.

Yesterday the app was updated to version 2.4.0.0.
